New preprint service at bioRxiv

A new preprint service called bio-archive and operated by Cold Spring Harbor has opened that is specifically for biologists. What’s nice is that they also accepts papers on systems biology, bioinformatics, and synthetic biology. This is a welcome addition especially after Nature Proceedings closed down 🙁

There are three advantages in my mind to preprint services 1) Makes the research available to scientists and the general public in countries who cannot afford a subscription to the journal; 2) Gives you an earlier data stamp, a journal might take 6 months to publish your paper, so why wait? Note that a preprint has a citable doi; 3) Equally interesting is the ability to upload revisions, something one cannot do in traditional publishing.
